Freeport Named One of America's 100 Most JUST Companies for the Sixth Time
February 10, 2025
Freeport’s commitment to helping its workers thrive helped earn it recognition as one America’s Most Just Companies for the third consecutive year in annual rankings by Just Capital.
Freeport finished 60th overall and first in the Basic Resources category. This is the sixth year since 2018 – and the third consecutive year – that Freeport has made the annual list. It also has been the industry leader in all but one year since 2019, including each of the past three years.
Freeport received the best marks in the industry for its treatment of workers and for how it prioritizes good governance and shareholder relations. Being recognized as an employer that prioritizes the well-being of its people is especially gratifying, said Pam Masson, Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resource Officer.
“We're proud to be recognized as one of America’s Most Just Companies,” Masson said. “This honor is especially meaningful because it reflects the values that guide us every day - our commitment to creating better futures for our employees. At Freeport, we strive to foster an environment where everyone feels supported, appreciated and empowered to thrive. By investing in employees’ growth, development and well-being, we are building a workplace where people can reach their full potential.”
The JUST 100 ranks the largest companies based in the United States on criteria deemed most important to the American public in polling conducted by JUST Capital, an independent nonprofit research firm that encourages corporations to focus on improving service to all stakeholders. This year 940 companies were evaluated including 10 in the Basic Resources category.
As in years past, treatment of workers consistently dominates as the top issues among the 17 key topics on which companies were evaluated. The most important attribute of a JUST company is that it pays a fair living wage, as it has been in past years, according to survey results. Other employee-related qualities deemed most important are that companies support worker well-being, provide benefits and work/life balance, and support workforce advancement and training.
Non-personnel issues which ranked among the most important include that the company acts ethically at the leadership level and communicates transparently and honestly.
