Copper's Connection to a Cleaner Future Explored in New Video Series
November 21, 2024
The first three videos of a five-part series that explores copper’s critical role in the clean energy future premieres this month as part of a collaboration between Freeport and Discovery Education.
The videos are part of Dig Into Mining – The Story of Copper, the educational initiative of Freeport and Discovery Education to help middle and high school students learn about the importance of copper and other metals in our everyday lives.
Dig Into Mining equips educators, students and families with dynamic resources to provide a front row seat to nature’s geological wonders and inspire further exploration of the world around them. These include a virtual field trip, career exploration tools, and other science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) learning activities.
The five-part series, “Copper Connects Us,” features company leaders discussing key topics including how copper is vital to the future of electrification, sustainability and innovation.
The first three videos premiered this week at DigIntoMining.com and on the Discovery Education Experience platform. The others are scheduled to be released in December.
Each episode of “Copper Connects Us” features two Freeport experts on various topics who address the main theme of the story. Installments in the series are:
- Copper Connects Us provides an overview of copper production at Freeport and sets the stage for other stories dealing with energy, sustainability, innovation and community involvement.
- Copper and Energy explores copper’s role in green energy solutions and how Freeport is helping the world meet its decarbonization goals.
- Copper and Sustainability focuses on Freeport’s commitment to working in ways that are locally sustainable, with a focus on water and nature-based programming.
- Copper and Innovation outlines some of the major innovations taking place, such as programs to electrify Freeport’s fleet of mining vehicles to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and develop driverless vehicles to help improve safety at mine sites.
- Copper and Community addresses how Freeport interacts and collaborates with the communities near its mines.
Freeport’s Dig Into Mining asset has reached over 5 million students since its inception in 2014. Another Dig Into Mining asset, Haul! Learning Experience is the third most popular asset in the Discovery Education Experience out of more than 200,000 programs on the Discovery platform.
