Freeport-McMoRan's 16th Annual Global Volunteer Month

April 1, 2018

If you want to know what a bike rodeo, health fairs, pollinator gardens and a paint-a-thon have in common, look no further than Freeport-McMoRan's annual Global Volunteer Month.

Taking place now through the end of April, Global Volunteer Month is an opportunity for employees at company sites to give back through volunteer service. This year, employees at the company's North American sites will volunteer at more than 30 different projects, including:

  • Helping run the Special Olympics Track and Field Competition in Safford and the Javelina Chase Bike Rodeo in Duncan, Ariz.
  • Planting a pollinator garden at Ajo, Ariz.
  • Painting and revitalizing homes as part of a paint-a-thon in Fort Madison, Iowa
  • Assisting with health fairs near the company's Colorado operations
  • Helping out at an Earth Day Educational Fair at an elementary school in El Paso

As if that weren't enough, some of the company's international operations also will get into the act this April with volunteers from Atlantic Copper, Cerro Verde and PT Freeport Indonesia participating in events in Spain, Peru and Indonesia.

"Everyone is busy, our lives move at a hurried pace and sometimes we don't have the time for community service, but Freeport-McMoRan employee volunteers have demonstrated they always have the heart, so they make the time to take action and lend their talent to service projects that help our communities improve," said Tracy Bame, Director-Social Responsibility and Community Development. "Our people truly embrace Freeport-McMoRan's culture of giving back to our communities, and Global Volunteer Month is a time that unites us in serving our communities."

A complete list of volunteer projects details the activities occurring at company sites. If a project is not listed for a particular site, employees are encouraged to consider other community volunteer opportunities in April.

For the past 16 years, thousands of employees have volunteered in various activities. Last year, more than 600 employees, their families and friends volunteered at more than 35 events held at sites throughout the Company.
