Freeport-McMoRan observes Domestic Violence Awareness month in October.

October 2, 2019

In observation of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Freeport-McMoRan is encouraging employees to be aware of the facts and resources available for help.

Domestic violence continues to plague communities across the U.S. – including those where our company operates. Some 1.3 million women and 835,000 men are victims of physical violence by a partner every year according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Sadly, children are first-hand witnesses to that violence.

The impact of domestic violence extends beyond the home, as victims of partner violence lose a total of 8 million days of paid work each year, the equivalent of 32,000 full-time jobs.

For the past 18 years, Freeport-McMoRan has supported the effort to raise awareness and empower those affected by domestic violence by providing grants to emergency shelters and other service providers. These grants support general operations and are based on services offered, shelter capacity (number of beds available) and the number of clients served annually.
