In February of 2018, Southeastern Arizona Clean and Beautiful (SEACAB) gratefully accepted a check, presented by Freeport-McMoRan Safford Operations General Manager Jeff Monteith, for a workhorse hydraulic lift trailer that was immediately put into action for local cleanups, partnering organizations and even a Fourth of July parade.

Without this generous corporate sponsor, many local nonprofits would be hard-pressed to aid rural needs. Earth Day e-Waste event, April 7, 2018, was held at the Safford Landfill during Free Dump Week. This local tradition allows residents twice-yearly waived dump fees to support a clean community.

The SEACAB trailer was used by the consortium that brought a team of AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) team members to live and work in the Gila Valley for three months from April to July 2018. The NCCC effort was launched by a $52,000 grant from the United Way of Graham & Greenlee Counties, which receives the majority of its funding through the generosity of Freeport-McMoRan employees in southeastern Arizona as well as matching funds from the Freeport-McMoRan Foundation. The in-kind award dollars this group of hardworking young adults provided approached $200,000, benefiting many local nonprofits.
